Today's Program
Gathering Our Spirit with God's Spirit
The Living Room is set up in bright colors – prayer flags are strung high in the rafters/pipes. If we can have fans up high that can be turned on near the end of the worship gathering, that'd be great. If not, it’s okay. The archway from the last worship unit is just inside the Servants’ Entrance double doors into the main hallway, with the this-past-Sunday bright part showing, and vines/ivy hanging down. Food for the community brunch is set out in the Pool Hall. We will eat during the break between bible study and second service.
- “Woodstock” by Crosby Stills Nash & Young plays
- A Journeyer steps up to light the lamp and another rings the bell
- Cory (E) and Leslie (L) make announcements
Worshiping with Our Children
- A Journeyer leads our children in talking about how seeds become plants – and how God’s message to us about love, and goodness, and hope, can be seeds that grow in us.
Welcome and Breathe
- Rick welcomes, has us breathe
- Rick introduces guest musician Suzanna Choffel
God’s Spirit and Our Spirit
- A Journeyer reads the poem “Gardeners and Non-Gardeners.” The poem is NOT ON THE SCREEN. Instead, put up an image of a garden or a field.
- Five Journeyers read the passage from Matthew 13 about the parable of the seeds. They all stand together and take turns.
- Suzanna Choffel sings two songs
Giving -- To Help God Do God's Work in This World
- Another Journeyer reads the poem “Gardeners and Non-Gardeners.” (YES, THE SAME POEM AS EARLIER.) Have everyone put their feet on the ground, and open their hands before you read it. Again, THE POEM IS NOT ON THE SCREEN. Put up an image of a garden or a field -- a different image this time. Then, that person leads an offering prayer.
- Suzanna Choffel sings as the ushers pass the baskets and then take them to the foot of the cross
Telling The Story and Our Story
- A film clip from The Secret Garden plays
- Rick talks
Go Out to Serve with Courage and Grace
- A Journeyer reads a prayer by Marianne Williamson
Dear God,
I surrender to You my striving.
I let go all need to effort or to struggle.
I relax deeply into things exactly as they are.
I accept life, that it might move through me with grace.
Amen.
- Another Journeyer has us all breathe. Then reads the poem (on screen finally!).
“Gardeners and Non-Gardeners”
Gardeners are always thinking
about their gardens
even in the seasons
of cold and snow.
Non-gardeners are unaware
of gardens, even
in the seasons
of warm and light.
Gardeners buy magazines,
peruse seed catalogs,
foster seedlings
and dream of planting.
Non-gardeners
read for pleasure,
watch television,
go for walks,
and dream of other things.
Gardeners are different
from non-gardeners;
gardeners make the earth
beautiful for gardeners
and non-gardeners alike.
- Dismiss us with “Go and pay attention to the Garden that is entrusted to you.”
- “Woodstock” by Crosby Stills Nash & Young plays again as folks depart
